MarkingsStamped Clarice Cliff Newport Pottery of England, “Greetings from Canada”
DescriptionThis 'Teepee' teapot was manufactured by the Newport Pottery Company in England and was intended to be sold as a whimsical souvenir in Canada. It is stamped “Greetings from Canada” under the base. The imagery is stereotypical of the way in which Europeans perceived Canada and its indigenous people at the time.
Betty Sylvester worked as a decorator at Newport and had painted many of Clarice Cliff's famous 'Bizarre Ware' patterns, which were also produced at the pottery.
