Ed Drahanchuk

BiographyEd Drahanchuk began working with ceramics in high school as an employee at the Ceramic Arts pottery studio in Calgary. After graduating from the Alberta College of Art in 1963, Drahanchuk established a studio in Calgary with his wife Ethel and the architectural sculptor Bob Oldrich (1920 – 1983). The team produced functional pottery as well as mural commissions for public and private institutions in Alberta. The studio's combination of large-scale mural commissions alongside smaller, functional wares was successful for the Drahanchuks, who exemplified the growing popularity of studio ceramics at the time. In 1975, the couple relocated their studio to Quadra Island, British Columbia, where they continued to produce smaller, functional wares, and Ed Drahanchuk began a painting practice.
