DescriptionArita octagonal dish with everted brown-edged rim. It is enamelled in the Kakiemon style with the Shiba Onko (Hob-in-the-Well) pattern, telling the story of Chinese statesman Sima Guang (Shiba Onko in Japan), who as a child used his quick-wits to smash a large water jar with rocks, allowing the water to escape and his drowning friend to survive.
