DescriptionAn Urbino Gubbio-lustred Istoriato plate, painted by Francesco Xanto Avelli, and decorated with a scene from Virgil's Aeneid showing Metabus passing his daughter across the river Amasenus tied to a spear to protect her from the Volscians. The colours are heightened in gold lustre, and the back has leaf-scrolls in lustre.
