The husband and wife potters, Vivika and Otto Heino viewed pottery as a romantic, traditionalist vocation and operated a cooperative studio for over forty years making noted functional vessels and architectural commissions. Otto Heino took up pottery in the 1940s as part of a war veteran program at the league of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts in Concord. He married his teacher, Vivika Timerasieff in 1950 and moved to Los Angeles where they established a pottery and finally settled in Ojai, CA where they purchased the house of noted potter, Beatrice Wood. Vivika received an MA in ceramics from New York State College of Art, Alfred. She became a highly respected teacher having taught in many institutions of higher learning including University of Southern California, Rhode Island School of Design in Providence in 1965 and a year at the Sheridan School of Crafts and Design in 1967.
