This egg cup is decorated in underglaze blue in imitation of Chinese porcelain, which is one of the factory’s hallmark styles. However, painters often applied the colour scheme to European ornaments and motifs – for instance the scrollwork and lambrequin designs seen on this piece were inspired by the designs of Jean Berain I. The piece also shows the influence of silver on porcelain; in this case the moulded ribs decorating the egg cup were most probably inspired by French silver examples.</schema:description><schema:artForm>European Ceramics</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/objects/7922/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></schema:itemListElement><schema:itemListElement><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/23899/full</schema:image><schema:name>Set of Twelve Dessert Knives</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>ca.1730-1750</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Saint-Cloud Porcelain Manufactory]</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Soft-paste porcelain with overglaze enamels, gilding; silver blades and mounts</schema:artMedium><schema:description>Set of 12 knives, Mennecy Porcelain handles painted from the Italian Comedy.</schema:description><schema:artForm>European Ceramics</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/objects/879/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></schema:itemListElement><schema:itemListElement><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/15450/full</schema:image><schema:name>Cat and Mouse</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>ca.1745</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Saint-Cloud Porcelain Manufactory]</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Soft-paste porcelain with overglaze enamels</schema:artMedium><schema:description>A St. Cloud figure of a recumbent cat with incised fur and manganese markings, its front paw resting upon a mouse, the rockwork base splashed in brown, yellow, red and manganese.</schema:description><schema:artForm>European Ceramics</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/objects/907/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></schema:itemListElement><schema:itemListElement><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/7447/full</schema:image><schema:name>Saucer (soucoupe) with floral motif</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>ca.1750</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Saint-Cloud Porcelain Manufactory]</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>soft-paste porcelain, and enamel.</schema:artMedium><schema:description>St. Cloud yellow-ground saucer reserved with trailing flowering branches in green, black and iron-red on an even ground.
