Maurice is the authority on early Quebec pottery, having published two books on the subject. This incredible 3 gal ovoid jug from Moses Farrar St. Johns Lower Canada was among his very best. Moses Farrar Lower Canada marked pieces are extremely rare and most are found damaged. There are no decorated pieces known with this mark, only plain forms. This ovoid jug has a beautiful exaggerated ovoid shape. The base is just 5 1/4" in diameter. 15 1/4" tall. This jug was made to serve a cooler and is the only such cooler we have ever seen. Truly a unique form. Near mint with just some minor glaze crazing on the neck and around where the handle meets the mouth. As clean as the day it was made. This jug was made between 1839-1841. Incredible that it survived in such perfect condition! A museum grade piece.</schema:description><schema:artForm>com.gallerysystems.emuseum.core.entities.Classification@415</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/objects/9534/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></rdf:RDF>
