Sunflowers are one of his best known and mot popular designs. Donald Webster chose to picture on on the cover of his book, Early Canadian Pottery. Crocks decorated with the Ballard sunflower are rare and highly sought-after. We are pleased to offer what is undoubtably the best and most monumental example of this rare Ballard design. The flower on this 3 gal jug is huge, covering most of the face of the crock. The manner in whic hboth the flower and the leaves are executed is quite unique. Marked Peter Denis, Cul de Sace Market, Lower Town, Quebec (City). While not marked CE, this is definitely a Canada East era piece. The condition of this piece is near mint. There are a couple of shallow flakes off the mouth. A few poststones to the body, from manufacturing. Perfect beautiful handle. Very clean glaze. The best Quebec merchant crock we have ever oofered!"},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Stoneware"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"1"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaRenditionNumber":"T10.6.364","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/29627/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"302","pixelWidth":"206","mediaID":"29627"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Peter Denis Jug"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"North American"},"rels":{"label":"Relations","value":"[]"},"subclassification2":{"label":"Sub-classification 2","value":""},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/29627/full"},"subclassification3":{"label":"Sub-classification 3","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":["The Raphael Yu Collection","19th and early 20th Century Ceramics","Canadian Ceramics in the 1800s","Ceramics for the Canadian Market"]},"geography":{"label":"Geography","value":"Origin: St. Johns, Québec, Canada"},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"Canadian"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"late 19th century"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"185715"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Overall: 40 × 24 cm (15 3/4 × 9 7/16 in.)"}}]}
