He ran his pottery in Brantford Canada West from 1849-1856. He must have done a good business, because many of his crocks line colelctors shelves today. Most Morton and Co stoneware is decorated with a simple flower design. This remarkable face is something exceptional for Morton and very rare for Canadian stoneware generally. The face design is centred in a floral frame. The expression is wry with just a hint of a smile. The design is well rendered in rich blue glaze. This small one gallon jug is 11 1/4" tall. There is a crack through the handle and a second hairline that runs around two thirds of the neck. A rare and important piece of Canadian stoneware. One of the best we have offered.</value></field><field label="Collections" name="collections"><value>The Raphael Yu Collection</value><value>19th and early 20th Century Ceramics</value><value>Canadian Ceramics in the 1800s</value><value>Ceramics for the Canadian Market</value></field><field label="Relations" name="rels"><value>[]</value></field><field label="Classifications" name="classification"><value>North American</value></field><field label="Sub-classification" name="subclassification"><value>Canadian</value></field><field label="Sub-classification 2" name="subclassification2"><value/></field><field label="Sub-classification 3" name="subclassification3"><value/></field><field label="Width" name="width"/><field label="Height" name="height"/><field label="Depth" name="depth"/><field label="Id" name="id"><value>184273</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>9517</value></field><field label="Culture" name="culture"><value>Canadian</value></field><field label="Period" name="period"><value>Canada West</value></field><field label="Markings" name="markings"><value>Stamped Morton and Co, Brantford C.W.</value></field><field label="Media" name="media"><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/29614/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="99" pixelHeight="162" mediaRenditionNumber="T10.6.351" mediaID="29614"/></field></object>
