DescriptionInverted bell-shaped and on spreading foot cast and chased with foliage on a matted ground, the lower body further cast and chased with foliage and scroll straps on a matted ground below the central reeded rib, with two leaf-capped scroll handles, the detachable cover similarly cast and chased and with a foliage-cast baluster finial, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked under foot and on cover bezel, the base further engraved with a scratchweight '82=1'

The arms are those of Bridges with Shirley in pretence for John Bridges (d.1763) of Cobham, Surrey and his second wife Mary (d.1747), daughter and co-heir of Sir Richard Shirley, 2nd Bt. of Preston, Sussex and widow of Thomas Western III (c.1693-1733), whom he married in 1736. Although the couple had a number of children they all died in infancy. Bridges' brother Brook Bridges (1679-1727/28) of Goodneston, co. Kent was created a baronet in 1718.
