The form explicitly makes numerous references to historical decorative arts, from the pedestal like base, to the French curl in the center to the golden finial. It mixes these references into a postmodern whole: an object that is curiously familiar yet completely original. The surface painting expertly replicates faux bois, an imitation wood pattern seen in trompe l’oeil ceramics as well as in other media. The faux bois also references Pablo Picasso’s use of wood grain patterns in the early 20th century, deftly positioning the work at the nexus of historical decorative arts, Modernism, and Postmodernism.</value></field><field label="Collections" name="collections"><value>Modern and Contemporary Ceramics</value><value>Modern and Contemporary - American</value><value>2018-2019 New Acquisitions</value></field><field label="Relations" name="rels"><value>[]</value></field><field label="Classifications" name="classification"><value>Modern and Contemporary Ceramics</value></field><field label="Sub-classification" name="subclassification"><value>American</value></field><field label="Sub-classification 2" name="subclassification2"><value/></field><field label="Sub-classification 3" name="subclassification3"><value/></field><field label="Width" name="width"/><field label="Height" name="height"/><field label="Depth" name="depth"/><field label="Id" name="id"><value>182164</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>7818</value></field><field label="Culture" name="culture"><value>American</value></field><field label="Markings" name="markings"><value>Sevres mark and stamp with initials of the decorator</value></field><field label="Media" name="media"><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19594/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="2400" pixelHeight="3000" mediaRenditionNumber="G18.5.3a-b" mediaID="19594"/><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19595/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="3000" pixelHeight="2400" mediaRenditionNumber="G18.5.3 mark" mediaID="19595"/><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19592/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="2400" pixelHeight="3000" mediaRenditionNumber="G18.5.3a-b view 3" mediaID="19592"/><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19593/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="2400" pixelHeight="3000" mediaRenditionNumber="G18.5.3a-b view 2" mediaID="19593"/><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19596/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="2400" pixelHeight="3000" mediaRenditionNumber="G18.5.3a-b view 4" mediaID="19596"/></field></object>
