The form explicitly makes numerous references to historical decorative arts, from the pedestal like base, to the French curl in the center to the golden finial. It mixes these references into a postmodern whole: an object that is curiously familiar yet completely original. The surface painting expertly replicates faux bois, an imitation wood pattern seen in trompe l\u2019oeil ceramics as well as in other media. The faux bois also references Pablo Picasso\u2019s use of wood grain patterns in the early 20th century, deftly positioning the work at the nexus of historical decorative arts, Modernism, and Postmodernism."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Glazed porcelain with gilding"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"1"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":[{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G18.5.3a-b","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19594/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"3000","pixelWidth":"2400","mediaID":"19594"},{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G18.5.3 mark","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19595/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"2400","pixelWidth":"3000","mediaID":"19595"},{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G18.5.3a-b view 3","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19592/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"3000","pixelWidth":"2400","mediaID":"19592"},{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G18.5.3a-b view 2","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19593/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"3000","pixelWidth":"2400","mediaID":"19593"},{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G18.5.3a-b view 4","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19596/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"3000","pixelWidth":"2400","mediaID":"19596"}]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Untitled Théière (2 CV, 1985)"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"Modern and Contemporary Ceramics"},"people":{"label":"Artist / Maker","value":["Adrian Saxe","Gilles Bouttaz","Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory"]},"rels":{"label":"Relations","value":"[]"},"subclassification2":{"label":"Sub-classification 2","value":""},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/19594/full"},"subclassification3":{"label":"Sub-classification 3","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":["Modern and Contemporary Ceramics","Modern and Contemporary - American","2018-2019 New Acquisitions"]},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"American"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1992"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"182164"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Overall: 32.5 × 22 × 7.5 cm (12 13/16 × 8 11/16 × 2 15/16 in.)"}}]}
