Such artefacts were newly on display and accessible to Dresser at public museums in London, a consequence of an expanding empire with a collecting impulse. Dresser likely based the form of this work on a double-spout and bridge vessel made by the Nasca people in Southern Peru, which he could have seen in either the British Museum or the South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria & Albert). Dresser\u2019s rendering of a face on the front of the vessel is possibly a reference to the figurative imagery on Nasca ceramics (see G83.1.185 and G83.1.180).The distinctive colouration at the top of the vessel is a credit to Dresser\u2019s collaboration with artist Henry Tooth (1842 \u2013 1918). Tooth was appointed to pottery manager of Linthorpe Pottery upon Dresser\u2019s recommendation and experimented with firing and glazing techniques for the firm in the 1880s"},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Glazed earthenware"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G14.13.2","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/11868/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"1224","pixelWidth":"1632","mediaID":"11868"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Peruvian-style vessel"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"European Ceramics"},"people":{"label":"Artist / Maker","value":["Linthorpe Art Pottery","Christopher Dresser","Henry Tooth"]},"rels":{"label":"Relations","value":"[]"},"subclassification2":{"label":"Sub-classification 2","value":""},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/11868/full"},"subclassification3":{"label":"Sub-classification 3","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":"19th and early 20th Century Ceramics"},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"English"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"ca. 1880"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"183650"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Overall: 18 × 19.5 × 12 cm (7 1/16 × 7 11/16 × 4 3/4 in.)"}}]}
