It was portrayed by several artists and potteries but the most famous image was by historical painter, Benjamin West. Josiah Wedgwood was the first to adapt the West image on tableware and he used the print by William Woollet available in 1776. The portrayal depicts a Pieta composition and portrays Native Americans and horses to heighten the narrative. This platter is more stilted than Wedgwood\u2019s interpretation. The engraver added a horse and rider, and depicted the Native American standing rather than kneeling."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Earthenware with blue transfer print from the \u201cBritish History\u201d series"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"1"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":[{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G13.15.24 (2)","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/15321/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"2400","pixelWidth":"3000","mediaID":"15321"},{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G13.15.24 mark","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/9826/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"2400","pixelWidth":"3000","mediaID":"9826"}]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Platter with the Death of General James Wolfe (1727\u20131759)"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"European Ceramics"},"people":{"label":"Artist / Maker","value":"Jones and Sons"},"rels":{"label":"Relations","value":"[]"},"subclassification2":{"label":"Sub-classification 2","value":""},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/15321/full"},"subclassification3":{"label":"Sub-classification 3","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":["19th and early 20th Century Ceramics","Ceramics for the Canadian Market"]},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"English"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"ca. 1826-28"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"185374"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Overall: 1 9/16 × 20 1/4 × 15 15/16 in.
