The scene shows two centurions kneel in front of Jesus praying him to cure their friend’s servant. The painter possibly used a contemporary paraphrase of the Bible such as Monsieur Lemaître de Sacy’s L’histoire du vieux et du nouveau testament (1735) as a source for each narrative.
