The scene refers to the biblical proverb from Matthew, 7:1-5: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” The painter possibly used a contemporary paraphrase of the Bible such as Monsieur Lemaître de Sacy’s L’histoire du vieux et du nouveau testament (1735) as a source for the narrative. A comparison with one of the prints shows that the scenes were freely appropriated and simplified.</value></field><field label="Collections" name="collections"><value>French Faïence</value><value>14th to 18th Century European Earthenware and Stoneware</value></field><field label="Relations" name="rels"><value>[]</value></field><field label="Classifications" name="classification"><value>European Ceramics</value></field><field label="Sub-classification" name="subclassification"><value>French Earthenware - Faïence</value></field><field label="Sub-classification 2" name="subclassification2"><value/></field><field label="Sub-classification 3" name="subclassification3"><value/></field><field label="Width" name="width"/><field label="Height" name="height"/><field label="Depth" name="depth"/><field label="Id" name="id"><value>182729</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>5736</value></field><field label="Culture" name="culture"><value>French</value></field><field label="Markings" name="markings"><value>Letter “K” in blue</value></field><field label="Media" name="media"><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/15635/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="3457" pixelHeight="3456" mediaRenditionNumber="G14.4.13 reverse" mediaID="15635"/><value mediaImageURL="https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/15634/full" rank="0" publicAccess="true" pixelWidth="3515" pixelHeight="3456" mediaRenditionNumber="G14.4.13" mediaID="15634"/></field></object>
