This jug with the inscribed date of 1737 features a rare portrait of an individual on faience as opposed to the image of a patron saint. Geared for the hunt with his rifle and hound, the man\u2019s dress and sword suggest that he was a member of the provincial nobility. But why has the inscription following the sitter\u2019s name been scratched out and by whom? What aspect of Mr. Tourer\u2019s identity did it originally reveal? These questions unfortunately remain without answers."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Tin-glazed earthenware (grand feu faience)"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":{"mediaRenditionNumber":"G12.14.14","publicAccess":"true","mediaImageURL":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/7904/full","rank":"0","pixelHeight":"2400","pixelWidth":"3000","mediaID":"7904"}},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Jug with the portrait of Monsieur Tourer"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"European Ceramics"},"rels":{"label":"Relations","value":"[]"},"subclassification2":{"label":"Sub-classification 2","value":""},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.gardinermuseum.com/internal/media/dispatcher/7904/full"},"subclassification3":{"label":"Sub-classification 3","value":""},"collections":{"label":"Collections","value":["French Faïence","14th to 18th Century European Earthenware and Stoneware"]},"geography":{"label":"Geography","value":"Manufactured: Moulins, France"},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"French"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1737"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"182827"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"Overall: 21.5 × 17.2 × 15.5 cm (8 7/16 × 6 3/4 × 6 1/8 in.)"}}]}
