They are painted in underglaze blue and in the Kakiemon palette with flower head and foliage roundels enriched in gilding. It is supported by a band enclosing a trellis pattern and flower heads in pale turquoise and lilac below a band of iron-red and gilt scrolls and tassels. The lower part of the bowls has a trellis pattern as well and enclosing panels with insects within foliage surroundings. The lotus petal moulded covers are enriched in iron-red, green, blue and yellow. The rim has a band of scrolls, flower heads and foliage, and with gilt on an iron-red ground.
